To keep the wiki experience consistent many pages use standardized templates. While special aspects of the game may requires the resulting pages to have additional customization it is generally recommended to use the standard templates where possible.

The forums and links the follow will aid in creating these standard pages.

Assets

Assets are a type of category (linking the construction materials for buildings); the category and link to the proper image location will be added to the page referencing the asset using the {{a}} template:

Example:

{{a|Cords}}

Provides: Cords Asset Cords

When the image dosn't appear the first step is to ensure that the Asset name is properly in Title Case. If not change it to Title Case and see if that finds the asset.

For a list of all assets used/unused in the game, see Asset Index.

If you still can't find the Asset image/category page, you might need to ensure the wiki isn't using an older name for the asset (renaming categories is difficult thus updates are rare and more likely only when the new/old name causes confusion)

If the asset is still missing, ensure the Asset name is in title case, link to the new category, and substitute the category page using the {{AssetCategory}} template:

Example:

{{subst:AssetCategory}}

Once this is done someone ought to add the image (using the auto generated link), and add the cost on the linked template: {{A/AssetPrices}}

Timed Quests

The Timed Quest events are done by populating the {{TimedQuest/Article Template}} as its base and providing a link to the table in category:Quest

To start a new timed quest page provide its name (In Proper Title Case) in the text box below and the editor will open with the template pre-loaded.

Quest Building / Multi Stage Building / Production Building

Info-256
TIP
Buildings which has no special reasons to be on a single page (no contracts, no construction, simple buildings) are not recommended to have their personal page

Most buildings requiring their own page are based of the Timed Quest building template: {{QuestBldg/Article Template2}}

Parts of the page not applicable are then removed, and wording re-worked for the respective building.

To start a quest building page provide its name (In Proper Title Case) in the text box below and the editor will open with the template pre-loaded.

Standard Quest

Standard quests are events that contain no timer, these are sometimes stand alone, and sometimes in chains or trees.

A standard quest is one stage of the chain or tree. Usually consisting of a few requirements, a set of tasks to complete, and a reward on completion.

The template {{Quest/Article Template}} is the base of these pages, with additional information populated or added as required.

To start a page standard quest page provide its name (In Proper Title Case) in the text box below and the editor will open with the template pre-loaded.

Wheel Of Fortune

The wheel of fortune events are done by populating the {{Wheel/Article Template}} template and providing a link to the table in category:Extra

To start a WoF page provide its name (In Proper Title Case) in the text box below and the editor will open with the template pre-loaded.

World Capitals/World Architecture

The World Capitals/World Architecture events are done by use two templates and providing a link to the table in category:World Capitals

To Create a new contest page requires two pages (a point template and the main page) as follows:

Points Template

First: The contest point template requires a new version for each contest

Make the new template in http://sqmegapolis.wikia.com/wiki/Template:CITYNAMEPoints

And add the following to that template page:

{{#if:{{{1|}}}|{{{1}}} }}[[File:CapitalPoints.png|link=World Architecture (CITYNAME)
|frameless|19px|NAME Points]]<noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude>

(Remember to replace "CITYNAME" with the name of the event ie. Template:SwissPoints in World Architecture (Switzerland))

Example:

{{SwissPoints|35}}

Provides: 35 19px-CapitalPoints.png

Base Capital Page

Second: The main template for the World Capital pages is {{World Capitals/Article Template}}, with additional information populated or added as required.

The {{WCTable}} template is used with {{WCBuilding}} template to form a table including all the buildings on the contest.

To start a page standard quest page provide its name (In Proper Title Case) in the text box below and the editor will open with the template pre-loaded.

4-n-Action Bargain

The 4-n-Action Bargain events are done by populating the {{4nAction}} template on 4-n-Action Bargain page.

Mysterious Chest

The Mysterious Chest events are done by populating the {{TreasureChest}} template on Mysterious Chest page.

Megabuck Special Buildings

The Megabuck Special Buildings are done by populating the {{MBSpecial}} template on Unique/Special Buildings page.
Additional templates are {{MBSpecialR}} (for resource buildings) and {{MBSpecial5}} (for a gem special with 5 MB specials)

Image Naming Guidelines

While older guidelines have existed, and images are sometimes moved, non-conflicting old images may be left where they are (since they ought to be properly linked for user display)

However when new images are added the following standards are either enforced by the templates, or recommended unless there is an issue or conflict.

  • Quest (multi stage buildings):
    (if applicable) the build site (place): BUILDING_NAME Initial.png
    The "purchased" foundation/construction site/stage: BUILDING_NAME Construction.png
    The first "upgraded" (via assets or job positions): BUILDING_NAME L1.png
    Additional stages are "L2", "L3", etc
  • Assets: The template enforces the use of: Asset ASSET_NAME.png
  • Contracts: The template enforces the use of: Contract CONTRACT_NAME.png
  • Time Quest Stages, and Standard Quest Icons: These are named "Quest QUEST_NAME.png" this is enforced in the Quest Chain display.
  • All other buildings are simply "BUILDING_NAME.png"
  • Real World images of buildings are named "RealWorld GAME_NAME.jpg" (JPG is recommended)
  • Most of the time when a building/asset changes its textures, the old image is first renamed to "BUILDING_NAME (Old).png" and then the new image is uploaded as "BUILDING_NAME.png". (See Redesigns) This renaming should be reflected on checking with What Links Here tools, so no images gets replaced on wrong place (specially on Real World Tables)

Addition of "(disambiguation name)" is used where two items have a conflicting name. In the case of images, frequently the first uploaded retains the original name.

Additional information

If in doubt how something ought to be formatted you can ask any active member or admin (Qoushik, LindsayLand, Dirty29er, and Ezterry) for additional advice:

The Board:General_Discussion discussion board is also a good place to talk to the community about proposing additional standards, changes to the existing ones, and what to do with outdated versions of the pages. (Changes to the templates are relatively common, however usually are done in a way where existing pages may remain as is.)

Advanced Topic: Template Substitution

While the above page creation forums start the page with the template in some cases there are two advanced template substitution methods:

  • Manual (recommended)
    Here you simply open the template wiki page and edit it to copy out the text, please ensure then to close the window to not inadvertently edit the template. Parts or the entirety of the template can then be copied into another page. This is useful when a section of a page is incorrectly formatted and the editor wishes to refresh that section without updating the rest of the page.
  • Substitution
    Templates in the wiki can be used in two ways:
    1. transclusion, is the way you are used to with templates such as {{coin}} ie: 15px-Coin_sm.png where the page references the with optionally a set of parameters, this causes the template to be rendered on the display of the page, but the content remains on the template page (and will update if the template updates)
    2. substitution, this actually copies the content of the template into the page you are editing, thus if the template is updated after substitution the page won't change. (Note: optional parameters are also possible in substitutions) to substitute a page use {{subst:<templatename>}} (example: AssetCategory above)
